>> abc7 news starts right now with live breaking news. >> breaking news in the east bay, live pictures from sky 7 over the scene of an officer involved shooting in dublin. one person has been injured. good morning, kristen sze is off today. police say the shooting happened

over an sure ago in dublin near an elementary school. our reporter is there and joins us live. laura? >> first things first. there was no impact whatever on the school which is a short distance from here. in fact, this incident happened in two minutes in this neighborhood. it started with a call from a father who was concerned that his son was acting strangely, his 28-year-old son. we can show you what it looks like, above us at this mont and there are investigators all over the state. the young man came out, he had a large knife, and the officer fired on him and he was shot one time, we understand, the suspect, in the arm. i have a sergeant from the alameda county sheriff's department. can you fill us in on the details. you are dublin police, contracting with the county have had encounters with this man before? >> minor contacts.

he does have some assault history and threatening behavior history. possibly, some mental history. so when the deputy got here he was here in two minutes from the time he got here he was confronted by the suspect who had a large 12" rambo style knife and charged at the deputy who fired. the suspect dropped the knife and the deputy took him in to custody. >> do we know how many shots were fired in the suspect was hit once? >> it is non-life threatening injury. we had to take him to the hospital and we know the deputy fired more than once but we don't know exactly how many. >> do you know where the suspect was hit? >> we know he had a hit to the arm and elsewhere, we have to find out from the hospital. >> this is our deputy on the job for a while? >> he has been on eight years, a very well respected deputy. he was confronted with a difficult situation, someone

coming at you with a rambo-style knife and he took immediate action and he was able to render the suspect in custody. >> finally, the investigators are out here. what happens next? >> the crime scene investigators will be here for a while and they will do a search warrant on the house to get information and find out exactly what was going on. they will find out why this person decided on this day to charge a deputy with a knife. >> sergeant, thank you very much. so that is the latest from here, one man injured, 28 years old, no other injuries and no impact at automatic on the local elementary school just a short distance from here. the assault went down so quickly there was no need for shelter in place. >> police are looking for an armed robber in sunnyvale and ordered a lockdown of cupertino

middle school while they search around highway 85 but a description of the robber is not released. we will stay on top of that. a mild earthquake shut pentagon around -- shook people around fairfield at 3.1, a mile from downtown fairfield. an attempted kidnapping in antioch prompted a school to get school a lesson in stranger danger. this is after a report of a parent reporting an incident of their child outside sutter elementary school. our news reporter has that story. >> the principal says they always watch the kids at drop off but today teachers volume teared to add extra patrol and they will be talking to the kids today about not talking to strangers. >> there were a lot of eyes on the antioch kids headed into sutter elementary school after news of a man trying to abduct a

5th grader has parents and edge. >> i am scareed. i see little kids walking home and i am like... >> it is very unsettling. strange something like this could happen next to you where your kid goes to school. >> the principal said the boy walked from school to his ride which was across the park. >> a stranger was at the park, in a car, called the student over saying that he was going do pick the student up and the student said "i don't know you" and left. >> the principal notified parents this happened and encouraged parents to talk to their kids about stranger danger. >> you had to talk. even with my daughter who is 15, we talked, you never know. we did that last night. >> he is described as white man with gray share and stubble

driving a late blue 70's era car. a lesson came from this for all parents, not just in antioch. the principal sent out a robocall and some parents did not get the message. that is because their phone numbers were not updated and current with the office an example why you should check with the office and make sure they have the right phone numbers. >> thank you very much. in san jose police are investigating the third homicide of the year. police were called to south side drive around 8:30 and found a man stabbed several times. police say he was attacked by many men. so far, the police have not released a motive or information on suspects. >> we do have a happy ending to a missing persons report we brought you on abc7 at 4:30 this morning. the san mateo sheriff deputy said a 67-year-old woman who has alzheimer's disease, has been found safe at stanford.

>> take a look at this dramatic video shot by a passenger on a plane headed for turkey. lightning struck the plight and it caught fire. terrifying situation. the pilot activated fire gear inside the engine and made an emergency landing. everyone on board the plane was just fine. happening right now in san francisco, officials announce a crackdown on restaurants that have pocketed fees meant to go do workers health care. under san francisco rules the restaurants can pass along a surcharge to diners and that money is supposed to be set aside for were low he medical coverage. a city investigation found that more than 50 restaurant owners were pocketing the money. the new plan requires restaurants to pay back the money to their workers. also happening now, giant fans on the peninsula, today is the chance to pose with the two world series trophies. >> i am absolutely excited about trophies. world series, percent amendments did it twice, and that is

crazy about the sunshine. if you have outdoor plans the big story is the fact that we have cooler air coming in, in our daytimes, and the nighttimes will be cooler after 30's and 40's, the 50's will return. across the bay beige there -- bay bridge, there will be "spare the air" but you have done a great job heeding the warnings. mount tamalpais shows mid-and-upper level clouds but not the moisture in the air that would be conducive to showers. we will look at live doppler 7 hd, the top of the screen shows where the next system is coming in. we still have a slight chance of a stray shower today but for the most part we are looking at partly sunny conditions and just dry weather. keep the umbrella many, just in case, a cooler week on the way and the cool air is dry so there will be a limited chance of shower tomorrow when the cold front comes through and

introduces us to the cool and dry air. warmer and more dry next week. we will have a little bit of a roller coaster, not huge swings but a change. look the at temperatures, already in the upper 50's to 61 at napa, and 63 at half moon bay, so, a nice ending to the week. we have upper 50's and mid-60's an the monterey bay and inland. now, what is going on, the low from yesterday is sinking further to the south and you can see wedge of dry air being driven in our neighborhoods by the area of high pressure over atop of that is where we are seeing the moisture rolling in so we have just enough scattered chance of a shower and especially when the cold front comes in tonight but notice the air behind it, not much cloud cover or in the way of energy, so it is a limited chance and drying out the forecast considerably compared to what we talked about yesterday. here we are, this morning, you can see the clouds opening up until right now you can see a spotty shower possible this afternoon and in the evening

hours it is looking quiet and here comes t the morning hours from north to southbound, and we will have our best chance of a scattered showers. when it passes we have the dry air and we see more sunshine saturday afternoon. overnight on sunday, there is a lack of clouds so it will be coolest on sunday morning of the weekend mornings and sunday afternoon, partly cloudy and temperatures are in the mid-50's. we have a winter mix with light to very light snow on sunday but not enough to make it that great for skiing. headed to los angeles, take the wet weather gear with the showers there and temperatures in the low-to-mid 60's of the today we are mainly in the low-to-mid 60's but only in the mid-50's by sunday and then we will have a slow warming trend bringing us back to the 60's by next week. that is good news if you want to be outside this weekend. >> still ahead, mike will introduce us to the
